Visit from Prof. Mama Foupouagnigni, AIMS

This week, May 18 - 22, 2026, we have received a visit from Prof. Mama Foupouagnigni, Centre President & Chief Academic Officer for AIMS Global Network

AIMS was founded in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, on the initiative of physicist Neil Turok, to train Africa’s brightest minds to become key players in the development of their own countries (“The next Einstein will be African”).

Today, the network comprises centres of excellence in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Rwanda.

Prof. Mama Foupouagnigni’s visit follows that made to Cameroon last January–February by Prof. Rubino and Prof. Palladino and represents an important opportunity for dialogue to strengthen institutional and scientific relations between the University of L’Aquila and AIMS.

On Tuesday, May 19, Prof. Mama Foupouagnigni met some members of the maths faculty on the Coppito campus, while on Wednesday, May 20, at 3 pm, he was expected at the Senate in Palazzo Camponeschi by our Rector, other authorities and several of our current students.
