Algorithms in the Womb: an international thesis project by our graduate Moldir Berkaliyeva

We are proud to share the great achievement of the international thesis project developed by one of our graduates, Ms Moldir Berkaliyeva (class of 2023, InterMaths Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programme) from Kazakhstan.

From Kazakhstan via TUHH to UKE: Moldir Berkaliyeva combines mathematics, artificial intelligence, and medicine.

As part of her Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Mathematics at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Moldir Berkaliyeva has developed an AI system at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) that can automatically detect specific anatomical landmarks of a fetus in 4D ultrasound videos. Her goal is to help capture early development in the womb more precisely and systematically.

The master’s thesis was conducted at UKE in collaboration with bAIome, the Center for Biomedical AI at UKE.
