Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine
Lviv Polytechnic National University is the oldest technical higher educational institution in Ukraine and East Europe. It was founded in 1816. University consists of 17 institutes, more than 100 departments; autonomous, additional and general subdivisions.
For Lviv Polytechnic the search for its true origin is a natural historical need. The historical model of any higher education institution is integral when the growth of «a historical tree» starts with strong roots. When Ukraine became independent, it was the right moment for Lviv Polytechnic National University to complement, or rather expand its history based on the principle of historicism and the evolution chronological system of higher education institutions implemented in Ukraine in 2005 on the basis of the Bologna process. By the way, long time ago, in many countries of Europe and the world, technical universities already arranged their dates and events in chronological order.
For a long time it was believed that the origin of Lviv Polytechnic National University dates back to 1844, when the Austrian government formed the Technical Academy in Lviv. From this historical fact we learn that the Academy did not appear as a newly created education institution, but as an education institution founded on the basis of the existing Real-Trade Academy. Since in 1844 the education institution was not established, but once again reorganized, the history of Lviv Polytechnic National University should be written from the time of the creation of the Real School in Lviv.
